A New Lease of Life with Well@Home

One of our Well@Home members, an 86-year-old resident of Kolkata, lives alone with a part-time cook, a maid, and a full-time nurse. She suffers from COPD, edema, electrolyte imbalance, and Parkinson’s disease. Last year, she was hospitalised with severe sepsis in her leg. Though discharged after a week, the infection relapsed, leading to pressure sores. She stopped eating independently and had to be fed. After a prolonged ICU stay with little improvement, doctors advised shifting her home with adequate arrangements for support.

A month later, a relative suggested our Well@Home solution to her daughter, who lives abroad. Not convinced it would help, the daughter nonetheless reached out to us. Our team quickly devised a care plan. The Care Integrator (CI) and zonal support staff began regular home visits, supervising hygiene, food, nutrition, and grooming. A sensor strip was installed to track our member's vital parameters, monitored round-the-clock by the CNC team, while our UK-based partner doctor provided regular consultations. Additionally, a physiotherapy plan was put in place.

Today, she can walk to the toilet with support and eat fruits and biscuits independently. Lauding Support Elders’ role in her recovery, her neighbours remarked, “She has got a new lease of life.” Her daughter, once sceptical, now takes an active interest in our care plans for her mother. She joins the monthly consultations with our partner doctor and connects regularly with the CI. With compassion and all-round medical support, the Well@Home team has helped yet another elder regain dignity and confidence.
